Improving sheet metal esl performance

I came across this thread for improving the performance of a neo planar driver.

I'm guessing something similar to this, but in 2 dimensions) could improve the performance of esl panels that use sheet metal with holes drilled into it.

You could either 3d print it or cover it with a putty that dries, and create a "plow" that attaches to the hole at the top and bottom, and runs along guides on that axis. You would then do the same thing for the other axis.

I'm guessing 3d printing would be easier.
