Improve CDP clock AND keep pitch control?

Hi. Based on what I've read here, it seems that one must give up pitch control to make improvements to the clocking in a CD player, at least using the methods described here. Is this impression correct? Let's use a Marantz 5100 as an example, since I'm thinking about getting one. What clocking improvements could be made to that unit without losing the ability to control pitch?
