Howdy all! Great forum here, it's where I first learned about DIY PJ's!
I've got my projector all together except for some final touches but a problem that I'm having now (and I was expecting it) is that the image is too large for the screen and distance that I'm using. I need to keep the PJ behind us the view since it's a large straight through design. I've thoroughly looked in the forums and searched but am coming up with not much help.
I've tried the free trial download of Powerstrip but I didn't like too much how it never seems to remember custom settings for a later time. The Microtek C589P monitor that I'm using won't allow me to get the desktop size small enough before it starts warning that my timing signal is incorrect. I'm a savvy PC graphic designer/company's "IT guy" head so I am comfortable with getting techincal and this project has been an awesome blast!
The current image projected on the wall area looks perfect! Nice and sharp.. just a little too big for apartment living.
I also heard of people using Zoom Player and I went over to the website to check it out but it doesn't seem to feature the ability to zoom out the movie image during full screen mode, I could be wrong and if so please break my false perception.
For a false approach of scaling down the movie I've been using Media Player Classic. The only fall back is that I can also see the desktop around the player on the wall. I'd like to get a completely black area surrounding the image.
Does anyone come into this problem and have they remedied it?
Thanx,

just use power dvd or nero dvd player,
it lets you scale the picture to whatever size you want.........
sure beats fabricating all new lenses and shiat

Snortonnorton,
I think I tend to like the PowerDVD player but does it allow you to scale the picture down with black entirely around the movie image? I can scale it down now to fit with the player I have but the problem is that the rest of the desktop shines up on the wall and it distracting. One chap suggested build blocking pieces that wouldbe placed in front of the projector to 'crop' the unwanted parts of the screen but that seems crude to me. Do you personally have either one of those programs?

There's a progam called "QuickTime alternative" google that and d/l it there is an option it one of the menu's called "pan & scan" and by using ur numberpad or the options in the menu u can scale it down and move it any where on you screen .... works great
If you are using WindowsXP, right click desktop and select "Arrange Icon By' and deselect 'Show Desktop Items', your screen will be totally blank. For making it black, right click again on the desktop, select 'Properties', select 'Desktop', Make 'Colour' as Black. You may resize the player and have complete dark black desktop.Gadgethead said:

Thanx Ramskihan for the suggestion and I have tried that method of making a totally black wallpaper plate for XP, hiding all of the desktop items, and even going into the settings to make the copy, menu boxes and borders very dark. It's still a bit annoying how you can see the "File, Edit, View..." menu and header. If I have to settle for this I guess I can but I'm just trying to find something that gives total black surroundings.
I think sound prodigy's suggestion is worth and look and I'll see what it can do...
Thanks to all those who have responded! and please add your comment if you have anything!

How about replacing the projection lens with one with a longer focal length? This way you get full resolution and it's a smaller picture. I'm not a big fan of scaling the picture using software for a permanent solution. It seems bass ackwards. If you want lower resolution, get a smaller LCD with a lower resolution. That will also descrease the screen size.
PROBLEM SOLVED!!!
Actually the answer was with me all the time. In Sound Prodigy's suggestion of Quicktime Alternative I noticed that it uses the Media Player Classic. I already have this player and upon looking into the program it works!!!! What a great thing to learn that it was with you the entire time, now I don't have to spend $30 for Powerstrip. I just feel like a dummy head for not knowing this myself.
Big hats off to Sound Prodigy for handing me the path to freedom!
