nFORCE,

Check out the 2*TDA1541 post from a while back (search for guido). It contains schematics on how to split i2s to two i2s signals. One for left dac and the other for right dac. You can then choose if the signal needs to be differential or not. Sounds like it.

Is the AD i2s compatibel. Sounds like an old AD to me..

Greetings,

Guido, just looked at your I2S thread. Nice work!

nforce, have you considered the newer AD1955 part? It has the option to select mono left or right mode by register, unfortunately, you will need a controller to change this register.

After reset, it is in PCM stereo mode, I2S, 24 Bit, 256x fs master clock. As I2S is essentially left-justified, I guess it is ok to feed the DAC a 16 bit signal even if it expects 24 bits. I would assume a single 1955 would be as good as two 1853 in stereo mode.

The PCM1738 also offers the mono option, again only via software.
