This has been all over the net the last week, but nobody posted it to diyaudio yet, so I decided to do the dirty deed myself.
Fake audiophile opamps: OPA627 (AD744?!) : ZeptoBars
in brief: the fake OPA627 contains a very high quality opamp substituted for the real thing, so that the fake works and works almost as well as the real thing! Try figuring this out on your own without a reverse engineering lab handy!

You would notice that something wasn't right if you tried to trim out the DC offset.

With the Signetics at a few cents, and "audiophile" amps at dollars, easy fraud. After all, a 5538 is a superb op amp.
