@ElArte that is a quote from a website linked in an earlier post, my takeaway was more objective vs. subjective. One without the other is usually not very good.
That’s a sound approach. Eheh.
It has to be safe and sound according to electrical and electronics rules, and it has to sound good to whatever brain one happens to own.
What really matters is simple, does it make you happy? Does it look good and sound good to only one person, you. I don’t by stuff to impress anyone but me. I used to chase THD and power but have come to realize it makes no difference if it do sound good to me. I make simple low powered single ended tube amps that I love. Used to build monster SS amps whos specs would impress nerds but sounded lifeless to me. I have now come to the simple is beautiful part of my life. If it must be complicated so be it, like my AMG GTC but I like my amps simple. Others like a 62 Falcon and theirs amps are more complicated than the space shuttle! It’s all about what you like not what anyone else thinks.
For those of us not trained in listening I imagine IMD/THD/price are usefull guidelines. Some great amps will fall thru, but a huge amount of terible crap will too.
Cheers!

I think most of the gear made today is excellent and people spend a lot of time comparing excellent vanilla ice cream to excellent strawberry ice cream, etc.
This is what I consider to be the reason for retail establishments. The cost of admission will be higher, but with proper guidance a client can end up with a very satisfying system and possibly an education in how to listen. Of course as in all things this would necessitate finding a quality dealer, not always an easy task. Personally I approach the process with the thought that if its fun we're on the right path, it doesn't really matter what my reasons for owning are, just that the client has an enjoyable experience and finds ways to connect with their music at deeper levels.
Yes,
Cheers!
Yes, but there is still a lot of broken designs. I like audiosciencereview for pointing some of them out.most of the gear made today is excellent
Cheers!
@DamonB So you’ve crushed your previous record of 29 replies to a thread. Where will you be taking us next? New thread or just let this one run its course?
I think this train already left the rails 😛

- If great sounding amps can be built with so few parts, why are most commercial offerings so complex?
