Hi over there.
I've just finshed my 5th project. It's a small 3,5 inch LCD I bought from www.elv.de .
It has a native reso of 640x480 and it works up to 1024x768 (compressed). It has a common vga-in, no cinch :-(
So I decided to build a very small PJ. The housing is 10" x 10" x 3.5". Weight is round about 9 pds.( I know you guys can't work with the metrics 😉
It works good for movies. Higher reso isn't necessary for that.
I used this parts:
-light engine comes from a slide-pj. in there is a stripped hqi-t 150 W.
- psu 12 V / 1.25 A from www.pollin.de
- 3 fans
- foil fresnel 108 mm ( squeezed betwenn two glass plates)
- IR-Filter ( used in houses to keep the heat out)
- magnetic ballast and ignitor
- surface mirror
Here are some pics of the housing an the results.
The the pics aren't good coz my cam is s_h_i_t_t_y. I got these results after fiddling with the exposure times.
so here it is.
here in comparison w a cigarette box
inside:
backside:
testing, open housing:
results. diagonale approx. 60"
etwas näher dran.
cosma shiva hagen in "7 Zwerge"
dark scene:
a lil bit closer
very dark
There's a hot spot. The reflector has to be changed and then it'll come close to be perfect.
😉
best.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

heya snortonnorton,
thx for the nice words. I am not a machinist. It's nothing but than a bit of experience, a cutter and a router.
that big metal piece is alloy. i brushed it with a brass brush and lacquered then.
@parts2wanksta,
thank ya. that lcd cost 169 euro what's round about 197 bucks.

Hey I_eat_flowers
That looks really great almost the size of a comercial projector if not smaller than some 🙂
I was wondering if you could give a direkt link to the screen you used, I've been pooking around www.elv.de but can't seem to find it (Perhaps my German isn't up to speed 🙄 )

@daninino & atsnom
well, it's not easy to find. a direct link doesn't work coz they're working with session ID cookies.
Nonetheless, this is the item number: 68-670-93
Type this in the search box. It's named with "Suchen". Then you'll get it.
best.
