Icepower Trouble

I have recently purchased Icepower ASC & AC modules to build 2 x 4 channel amps but I am having great trouble trying to get any noise out of the AC modules. I have been able to get music from the ASC modules I have tried.

The ASC module is supplying 47V to the AC module so they are getting the right voltage in. When the ASC module is turned on I do not get 12v at the auxiliary power output of the AC module, as well as no sound.

I have tried 3 out of the 4 AC modules and cannot get any sound from them, it's like they are not turning on. When the first one wouldn't work I was thinking I was sold a dud but after trying the next two with the same result I am hoping I'm just doing something wrong, but I'm not sure what as there doesn't seem to be much to do wrong.

With the first modules I have shorted the Gnd & - inputs to run them SE. The signal input was via a buffer but when I didn't get any music I remove the buffer and sent the signal input directly to the AC module input. I tried the other two AC modules without going via the buffer first.

I also had the ASC & AC module grnds connected to the star ground/earth point. I have tried disconnecting the AC module from the star ground with no change.

I note, that what I think is the AC ground point seems to be connected to the ground of the rest of the AC module via a 10k resistor & a cap, not sure what's going on there.

Does anyone have any ideas what I might be doing wrong, or have I got 3 dud modules that where sold to me as brand new.😕

The other issue I am having is when I tried the first ASC module (version G)there was a buzzing/ticking (it alternates) noise that appears to be coming from the rectifier. I removed that ASC module & installed another module (version J) and had no buzzing/ticking noise & then got sidetracked with the AC issue.

I have now tried 4 version G ASC modules & I get the same noise from all of them but the version J is silent and working fine.

Does anyone know why the version G modules might be making this noise. I have tried them installed with all connection & tried them with just the AC power connected with the same result.

Best guess is that what you are hearing is mechanical buzzing from either the output coil or the mains transformer (because of the high switching frequency). I think it might be possible to remove this by damping at least the output coil, but the silicone used isn’t what you’d use in the bathroom so I am not sure you can easily do this yourself 🙂

Do you see any difference between the revisions in how damping is applied (where and how much)?

/U.

They all look pretty much the same to me.

As I didn't want to put my ear too close to the powered unit I have made a paper funnel and have now used it to try and pinpoint the sound, which propagates all around, my guess now is it's coming from the yellow transformer in the middle of the photo, is this normal?

I hate noises that shouldn't be there😡
