Icepower 700AS1 Signal Sense Feature

I think there are limitations of the Icepower signal sense feature. Does anybody have good ideas?

1. On datasheet page 10, table 10, Maximum current on Signal Sense (clamping at ±2.5 V). Does this mean that any input signal above 2.5V will be suppressed? If so, how will this impact the speaker output?
2. Page 14, table 18, Signal Sense - Trigger Level is 1.5mV. Is this value adjustable? Because sometimes it's still a bit high when playing quiet sounds like birdsong in the woods.

It appears that you have to supply a circuit to interface between the audio signal and the trigger.
An op amp, set to an appropriate gain, with a series output resistor of around 5k (which will
limit the current to under 10mA as specified) should work.

If the fixed 1.5mV trigger level is too low, you'll have to supply the additional gain before the signal sense.
You'll probably need to add some high pass filtering also.
