I come across this and would like to have a go....

PCM2706 High Fidelity USB Soundcard / USB Headphones

I was going to have a go using a schmartboard. My problem is, I cant find any reference to L1 or X1. Can anybody help with the componants.

X1 is the 12MHz crystal resonator. I suspect pretty much any 12 MHz crystal with an appropriate load capacitance (often 2 x 20pf for integral oscillators, they're mostly Colpitts with a parallel xtal), which you'll find in the PCM 2706 datasheet. There are several references in the example circuits in the datasheets. I haven't read the datasheet in detail but there will be further references to the exact components if these are manufacturer- or type-critical. I don't see L1 immediately, but I suspect you haven't read the datasheet, and I'm not the one building this thing.
