I live Brooklyn Center, MN (Northern suburb of Mpls) which is about 300 miles from Thief River Falls, but that hasn't impeded my spending there, or Parts Express for that matter. I just hope On Line and ride the Plastic Express! 😉 The only thing that slows me down is the content of my checking account. 🙁

I have a Maplin electronics store about a mile away.
They are expensive for most things.
A resistor is 17p, I can get a resistor from RS components for 2p.
But if I am in desperate need of a component they are very handy.
In the 1980's Maplin did some great kits but no longer have the same range.

I lived in Silicon Valley in the eighties and actually WORKED at HALTEK. Talk about a spending temptation! I still have parts bins full of unused switches, barrier strips, Augat IC sockets and strips and the like. That's after mountains of stuff - like a cubic yard of computer grade electrolytics - got dumpstered when I moved away. I currently have a 40' cargo container that is in no danger of blowing away! The quest is the quest!

LMAO..
I try to keep the parts box as low as possible..so build and use it as fast as possible then it doesn't build up.
The on line life makes it possible to get parts that years ago you couldn't get even in the early 70's. When I was 13 I wanted an N78 and couldn't afford it..I was told they are like rocking horse poo..
But I have seen loads on EBay in 2015..🙄
So what gives? its not fair..
And as for Maplin yes they are useful for the odd part..can I have two 1 meg 2 watt please<<<sorry we only have one..😀
Parts reorder level max 1 reorder 0..well in case they haven't realised HIFI is two channels..
Its turning into a cheap or should I say expensive computer and toy store..
😡
Last time I asked an assistant they were amazed when I told them the colour code was wrong on a 10K resistor..
I must admit years ago the colour coded wire numbers in industry were the same as the resistor colour code..
Why can't I still buy the lifetime tubes realistic.. whinge whine moan...

Maplin's range of aluminium boxes is useful and competitively priced. They also do a nice quality heat-shrink sleeving. Other than that, it would really have to be an emergency....
I would be broke if I lived within driving distance of both digikey and parts express
In which case, you'd hang yourself (with a double rope, to make sure) if you lived at my adress.
