...except I don't wish to buy the kit - yet. I have modpodge, but would like to know if I can use any non-water based paint for the dots/strokes? eg. would metal or concrete paint be ok as a substitute for practice on really cheap drivers? 😕
It would be more useful for me to practice by being cheap until I can afford more drivers to do all this kind of stuff.

ModPodge is not a part of EnABL. It is something i have been using for 30-some years on paper-cone drivers. When i started EnABLing we did some experiments and found that in many cases it was synergistic.
Any flat acrylic paint with high solids content should work. The gloss is also an acrylic. They are water soluable. Its purpose is to seal decals on models.

Do you have some drivers lined up to practice on?
If not, ebay usually has lots of speakers (some individual, but i've seen them in sets of 16). You're only practicing, so buying up blown speakers would make everything a whole lot cheaper.

Unfortunately the real learning only comes when you start using the stuff in the kit. In fact, you will be surprised how much performance you can extract from cheap drivers.
The exchange rate is currently around US$0.90 - which would make the full kit under AU$35 - delivered to Tassie!.
Cheers,
Alex
Well, thanks for that - I might complete my current project at the moment, but I won't be able to resist for long... 😛 At least it'll give me a bit more time to learn more about the method.
