This is the best way, but it costs more, correct? If some people here can't afford Lynx alone, how can they afford Lynx plus an external ADC?
The Lynx is not the only option. There are other 24/192 capable cards that are somewhat cheaper.
Please forgive my naiveté on this subject, but how much more complicated would this be (building an A/D converter) as opposed to building a DAC?
The card that I have now (I just purchased) is the
ESI Juli@. The onboard A/D converter is the AK5385.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
It isn't but it does require a greater degree of care and attention across the various blocks of the design. If one breaks an ADC down into blocks, excluding the a/d ic,you have the analogue input stage, the digital output stage and the clock/sync stage. On the other hand you can buy a one chip dac i.e. spdif in and analogue out.

There are two ways of thinking - how to accomplish the task or how to find the excuse why it is not accomplished 🙂 It is up to you, Sir, do you really want that card, as I wanted mine, or not. If you want it, you will find the way to get it for the right price. If you don't want it or don't need it, get something else 🙂Gordon McGregor said:Actually you have the same ebay in UK as we have here in the USA 🙂 It is not easy to buy a Lynx soundcard for a good price, as it is in the high demand, but this task is not impossible.

Actually it is not easy. In UK, distributors charge 1.8 times US price.
In the US, many of your dealers are simply not equipped to ship abroad. Instead of using USPS, many use UPS DHL etc. This results in very high charges.
US eBay dealers are also poor in communication. No comparison to UK or Germany, I am afraid.![]()

You are right; there are 2 ways. You advocate using a computer card. I have gone thru' this process and decided that it is better to use separate units. Just as cheap and much better performance (to high end audio standards).
😎
