I want a Pair of powered Subwoofers for my Office/Den
I have a small 8 watt per channel tube amp hooked to a pair of Classic
Golden Ratio speakers from Planet 10 with Mark Audio Aplair 7 drivers.
As an experiment I hooked up the powered subwoofer from my PC
speakers (Y off the audio input) and it helped to fill in the low end.
Originally when I was looking at speakers I was only really thinking that I was
listening to rock music, but admittedly I've re-discovered how much I enjoy
classical music. So a subwoofer would greatly enhance my listening pleasure.
What I would like is a pair of Subwoofers that I can connect to my speaker
terminals on my tube amp so I only have one volume control to adjust.
While I am using a tube amp for the mains I believe that a Solid state Sub
would work fine for my application. and since it's in my office I do not believe
it needs to be very large (in size or power).
And while I realize this is DiyAudio for this case I'd rather just buy either
a prebuilt unit or a kit since I have other projects that need my attention.
Suggestions?
Thank you.

Correct me if i am wrong, the drivers you are using are full range drivers?
I would not expect too much sound quality from these, full range drivers are a compromise ( no matter what the manufacturers tell you), you are far better off using a proper 3-way speaker. I own full range drivers as well, the visaton b200, these are quality and well regarded, but when i compared these to my 2-way and 3-way systems they were found to be sorely lacking.
Apart from that point you can use any sub you prefer, it depends what kind of money you are prepared to spend. If you state that i can give you a recommendation.
Also think about installing a good quality tweeter, that will help as well.

The first rule of two-way speakers is: BI-AMPyou are far better off using a proper 3-way speaker. I own full range drivers as well, the visaton b200, these are quality and well regarded, but when i compared these to my 2-way and 3-way systems they were found to be sorely lacking.
The first rule of three-way speakers is: TRI-AMP
You can go from the loudspeaker terminals to line level using a -20 dB attenuation network. Then you could use any subwoofer (plate) amplifier. Some of them even have this feature built in.

The first rule of speaker club is: There are no rules (not of the above sort anyway)
As this is for my Den/Office I really didn't need to go to crazy.
So I grabbed my wallet and headed to the store to see what was available.
I wound up with a pair of off the shelf Sony 10" powered sub woofers.
(they were the best fit for the available space).
I have them mounted Behind me under my workbench and about a foot off the floor.
I realize they typically should be on the floor, but my office/den is also my electronics
workshop (more like my play room) so this helps to keep them from getting damaged.
Probably not the best solution but the price was right (about $320 for the pair)
and good enough to fill in the low end that was lacking.
And now I can enjoy the music as I get back to work on some projects
that I took a detour from to get some better music quality in here.
Thank you
