I need a filter for the Gradient AX08

recommended filter for a direct radiator/bvr cabinet uses 3.9mH. I an AX08 mounted in a Karlson Twelve from 1955 its too hot in the screech area. I think the K-application would use less aggressive contouring.

wonder what L value would make a good compromise? can one dispense with the filter across the fullrange>

Gradient 's measurements - no fiklter + filter

found a 0.2 ohm dcr 4mH inductor - paralleled it with 3R - not too bad - I think the filter across the driver is there to allow suppression of the 3-5K area per blue curve vs just the 3.9mH/3.3R filter by itself (red curve). The Karlson 12 is smaller than a recommended BVR - still looks big for an 8" driver with an overall external bulk of 3.3 cubic feet.

I appreciate the input from everybody and found a 2.5mH coil laying around - that seems ballpark subjectively with getting a balance which isn't "nails across the blackboard" screeching yet doesn't have too smeared/heavy/muddy bass (that is with the cabinet elevated 18" from the floor and away from walls)

in this price range (and below) for 8" "fullrange" we've got Wild Burro's BetsyK, and BG20 - are there any other 8 inch contenders at the ~$60 bracket? (guess one could add $20 or so considering a corrective filter for AX-08)
