Good stuff. Was ~10kV without breakdown, or the start of breakdown?
PS. Sorry for questions - its just an interesting topic to get some background info on.

At the disposal I had a breaker insulation tester with a maximum voltage of 10kV. At this voltage permanently involved in the measurements there was no breakdown, and there were no corona-effect traces.

did you give your traffo a varnish bath? did you test before and after?

I think there was a thread here at one time for a 1 KW Amplifier using 20 KT88 tubes and using 4 Hammond 1650W OTs.

Admittedly such large valve amps have been built and used at one time in audio history..........
But please forgive me if my reaction to reading this thread was "my partner accuses me of building far-fetched valve stuff, but this thread makes me feel pretty OK about it"

Two $12 tubes make 250 watts at 2.2% THD. I'm looking at 4 or maybe 6 tubes per channel for a 1 KW amp that runs from 625 volts. . Why go crazy with tubes, when you can turn plate power into audio, but heater power only becomes, well, HEAT!
