I was referred over here by a member at caraudio.com.

I am having a real hard time deciding what I want to do with dorm speakers....

I saw this link, as I saw it in here as I was searching...

The only question I have, is if I were to change out the 3" full range that is in that speaker with a 4" Full Range , what (if any) altercations would have to be made to the enclosure itself?

I currently have an Ascendant Audio Atlas 15" for a sub....

I'm just hoping that my roommate is OK with it... 😀

So 5 liters huh? or about .1778 cubic feet per box? Any tips you guys can give me on building these, also, any type of reciever that I should be looking for?

With a cabinet that small construction is pretty straight forward. Either void free plywood (Balitic Birch is a good plywood), or MDF you could probably get away with 1/2" wood, but I'ld go for 3/4". Butt joints all around if you've got clamps then just glue them and clamp, otherwise I'ld glue and screw. The screws can be removed after the glue sets, then you can fill in the holes with wood filler.
What kind of budget are you looking at for a amp? Would you want a kit, or a finished one?

I am on a budget on what ever I can get for the lowest price. I just ordered my rythmik audio plate amp for my subwoofer, so now i need a reciever... I'm trying to spend under $400-$450 for everything... I'm at $200, and I need to order the speakers from partsexpress, and I need to find a good reciever and all the building materials. I've heard that Yamaha, Denon, Harman Kardon and Onkyo are all good? I about bought a Pioneer the other day for $150, but didn't because I haven't really heard anything about them in home audio.

As for a kit? What type of kit are you talking about?

As for a kit I was thinking something like this:

which you should be able to put together for fairly cheap.
Otherwise if you're going to be listening in a dorm room you won't need gobs of power a Sonic Impact amp is a pretty incredible deal.

both of these would give you great sound, but aren't exactly "recievers". They don't have a built in AM/FM tuner, nor will they do anykind of surround sound. Not sure if this interests you or not. Just some thoughts. If I was looking for a true reciever, I would do a little research and and an old one off of ebay.

If you go to this page:

you can find a calculator that runs on Excel which can calculate box sizes for you, if you are interested. The driver you linked to is about the same. A 6 litter sealed enclosure would do well for it. Keep in mind though that the specs that are given by the manufactures are often off. I just found this out the hardway by building a cabinet using the given specs then measuring after the fact....
Sealed cabinets are pretty forgiving though, so you'll probably be fine.
