Thought about that. However, I do have a pile of high current power supplies already, everything from 5V 120A to 24V 30A. They're only adjustable +/- 10% but for most of the things I use them for, it's adequate.
Don't know how much I could get for those transistors off eBay. About half of them are used (removed from functional equipment that was decommissioned).
Maybe I'll just give myself a challenge and try to slap together a basic PNP quasi-complementary amplifier, for the fun of it.
