I love sleep. And sleep and sanity have very little to do with each other. I get plenty of sleep, but many would question my sanity.😀😉
Peace,
Dave

Me too. I work nights; 5:00pm to 3:00am local. I try to lay down when I get home so I can have some daylight before I have to go to work again. My mind is awake as I lay there, trying to sleep. On my off days, my wife wants me to become a day person.
Maslow's refined heirarchy (things you need soon to enjoy the journey):
1. Breathing air
2/3 tie. Water or more alluring liquids
2/3 tie. Bladder relief strong stream and no after-dribble
4. Sleep with extensive and confusing dreams and a wakeup that takes 30 minutes
5/6 tie. Good food
5/6 tie. A mind and colon clearing BM
7. Sex
8. Sunshine and fresh breezes
9. Good music preferably live or well reproduced
10. From here the list becomes more personally variable
Conclusion...sleep is 4 of 10 on the all time list!

But the point is (sort of) how long can you go without...when you're 14 then 7 moves up to 2. At 59 it can go much lower but 7 is an optimistic outlook!
Sleep and sanity are very closely tied lack of sleep equals messed up brain and funny thinking trust me on this
If you are in the school that, spending 1/3 of your lifetime unconscious is a major waste, perhaps you are right, and some people seems to require less sleep and do fine, a lots do not, it's in your genes, can't fight it.
Because am in IT, I equate sleep as when my brain needs to re-organize the databases without the interruption, it's a time for the brain to deal with all the inputs it has acquired in the last 18 hours, AND the body to heal, using all available energy (cpu cycles) that maybe used during waked moments. So in another word, it's a necessity.
My sister is a nurse and she's always concerned that we don't have problem sleeping. Furtunately for myself, sleeping is not one of my problems and I rarely have headache or insomnia, am Michael Jackson's opposite, I can sleep anywhere, anytime, just gimme 2 minutes and nothing exciting going on, BAM! gone, seeya in 8 hrs! 🙂

I am also 59. I find that Water, Food, Sleep, BM, and Sex can each move up to #2 on any given day. It all depends on priorities, and which one you are in short supply of at the time.

I know that feeling all to well.....Lack of quality sleep can screw up everything else though.
I love sleep but...
It's 4.20 am and for the last hour and a half my brain switches to each in turn:
1. An Applescript due to run at work that probably isn't quite right
2. A current family problem
3. A personal eBay listing that isn't quite right
At least I can fix one of those before trying again to sleep..

Sleeping is great if you have wonderful dreams. I have wonderful dreams; don't know about nightmares, everything just flows fine. The life of the subconscious mind is very creative - I enjoy it a lot. Apart from that, if I don't get quality sleep next day I'm useless.
I suspect of people who do not sleep well, I take it as a sign that something's wrong with that person. Happy people sleep well. Are you sick? What troubles you?

Sick, who knows and who cares as long as I'm productive at work. Nightmares doesn't bother me - if I should have one I find them quite interesting and amusing.
Brgds
Lack of, or supposed inability to, sleep can also be an indicator of an underlying medical problem eg sleep apnea or a heart rythm problem.
According to my wife, my problem is staying awake!
I can sleep anytime, anywhere.

I enjoy to sleep, but I enjoy life more. I work 10 hours a day and commuting takes me half and hour. The same to came back home. The you have to eat, pee, shower yourself (or another's 😛 ), cook, a bit of clean... How many spare time do I have for living?I suspect of people who do not sleep well, I take it as a sign that something's wrong with that person. Happy people sleep well. Are you sick? That's why I use to go bed at 2-3PM and get up at 6 o'clock. If I had more free time, I will spent more time sleeping, as I do in the weekends.
I reach home at 8-9PM, when should I be able to diy-audio? 🙄
