I picked up a pair of 103/3 Kef's and purchase some new donut dust caps from Simply speakers. I refoamed plenty of speakers before and also ave redone the donuts on my 107's in the past.
The glue must have been much more runny this time than I had realized but after I'd finish installing the donut on one woofer and came back from my weekend the cone was a stiff and immobile as if they magnet had attached to the pole piece. I remove the donut carefully and will be able to reuse it and looked very carefully and finally was able to see one run of glue that had dropped down into the voice coil Gap. Wonderful.
I've read that mineral spirits will dissolve rubber cement which is what the simply speakers glue is made of and I have a small laboratory eyedropper that I could apply a judicious amount of mineral spirits to the area in question so my question to the group is, does this sound like a bad idea or give it a shot Nothing Left to Lose? Simply speakers is closed for summer vacation and will reopen in a week so if worse comes to worse I'll simply have them rebuild the speaker. Of course that means I'll have to do the other one too. Double wonderful. I'm hoping somebody in the Forum might have had this experience or have done this type of repair before that might be able to offer me a suggestion before I jump off the cliff with this woofer. Thanks, Craig

Craig 25,

A hypodermic syringe fitted with a wide bore needle will get the mineral spirit exactly where it is needed, and can be used to take up any excess. The mineral spirit shouldn’t dissolve the varnish in the voice coil wire. If you take your time, and make several attempts, then all should be well.

Success!
Thanks Tapestry!
I went to Hobby Lobby and got the package of glue syringes, and then put a 4 inch length of 1/16 in heat shrink over the end of the metal tube, and that got me right where I needed to be. I gave it a good dose and let it sit for a couple hours. Now the cone is free again, whew!

Keep cleaning it by applying a drop of solvent, removing softened glue with a piece of printer paper or thin plastic, and repeat until it comes out clean 3 or 4 times in a row.

Or upon drying it will freeze again or at least scratch.

That's exactly what happened JM. It definitely got a little sluggish after it dried again. the difficult part is getting something down in there to wipe against the side of the voice coil. the plastic cylinder that comes up in the middle that the inside of the donut is glued to is right in the way. This b200 is the one with the metal rod that connects through the middle
