Hey ppl,
Alright lol i am not happy with what I have done but, I guess it can be fixed because everyone else seems to be able to fix their blown stuff. Its pretty sad what happened lol.
I just bought 2x fosgate subs 1200watts each, boxed them, bought a NBN 2400 watts amp with 2/3/4 channels and a 60x4 watt mp3 head deck, then i connected it all up and stuff, cool its running fine then i put my seat back and it runs over the b+ cable connected to my battery and the earth wire is connected to my seat!!! lol
So now my head deck aint switching on and i dont know about my amp, subs are fine but i don't know what to do. Only had the system for 3 days and boom lol so im pretty guted. What could have happened i cant see any blown fuses and am not sure how to go about fixing the stuff.
Ive taken the head deck back to be fixed cuz of warrant but not sure if the amp has to be connected or not to see if it is working because when i connect power the light doesnt go on.
Appreciate any help please!! lol thankz guys

Hi
first, check the fuses that are installed into the amplifier. If those are looking fine and are not burned, check that battery + and battery - cables are well connected to the amplifier power-terminals.
Disconnect the "remote-signal" wire from the amp.Disconnect all speaker and RCA cables from the amp.
Get a short piece of wire, connect the battery+ terminal and the "remote" terminal. The amplifier should turn on. (Check the power-lights and the protector-lights if the amp is equipped with those)
If the amp stays off it´s possibly damaged. Get a voltmeter (turn multimeter to VDC) and connect the voltmeter to the power-terminals of your amp. You should get something around 14volts . If there´s nothing you have a faulty power supply, meaning the main fuse is blown, cables are off, burned or somehow else disconnected.
When the power-light turns on, it´s a good sign. Turn off the amp by disconnecting the small wire from the "remote" terminal.
Reconnect one speaker to channel 1. Get a discman, walkman or mobile MP3-player if you don´t have a fully working car stereo. Connect the headphone-output of the mp3player to your car amp´s channel1 input . Turn down the volume at the mp3player. Turn your amp back on by connecting the battery+terminal with the remote terminal. Slowly increase the volume. If there´s sound, turn the amplifier off . repeat the steps for all other channels.
This way you can easyly test each channel of the amplifier. If there´s a faulty channel or your amp doesn´t turn on at all you need to uninstall the amp from the car.
We can help you fixing a broken amp, but you should have good skills in electronics and soldering.

😱 thankz alot for the help steph,
Ive done what you said and nothing happened but then i put the amp directly to the battery and it was working..... so not sure how to get the wires inside my car working again but i got the head deck back and it is also working fine in my friends car but not in mine, maybe a fuse of my car blew?
not too shure but ima a real newb when it comes to electronics lol! im learning though and might do a electrician aprent next year
Thankz alot for the help guys 😎

Hi chaoz_warrior,
Did you connect the power as well as the remote wire to +12v? If the LED goes on, you're safe. The LED shouldn't go on when when you connect it without power on the remote connector.
If you look in your cars manual/fusebox, they usaully give you a ledgend of where tho find the fuses, look for the radio fuse, pull it out and check if it's broken. If the fuses are fine, you can maybe have a bad ground connection to the head unit, or a broken/burnt power cable.
You can test the ground connection by having somebody hold a multimeter probe on the chassis, and the other probe on the ground wire going to the head unit to check contenuity. You can do the same with the power cable by removing the radio fuse from the fuse box, and connect one probe to the contacts where the fuse should be and the other probe to the power lead which should go to the radio.(You'll only be able to get conenuity on one of the pins where the fuse should be).
Hope this helps you solve your prob.

Werner

HI
You should always use a new pair of power wires for an amplifier. The stock cables that the car manufacturer uses is usually way too small. It´s ok for our head unit (car stereo) , but not for an amplifier.
Run new power wires from the battery to the amlifier. Depending on the current the amplifier uses you can determine the gauge of the cables. You can also ask your car stereo dealer , he will know what kind / size of cable you should use for your amp. Also make sure you use a "main fuse" , that means you install a big fuse 10 inches away from the battery. This fuse can be of higher value than your amplifier´s fuse. The main fuse is important to protect the car battery and the alternator in case the main power cable ever fails and causes a short.
Now for your car stereo/head unit power wire. There should be fuse box where you find those kind of fuses.
Check your owners manual to find it. Like you see in the picture the fuse is blown (the small wire inside the fuse is burned).
Replace the fuse and your car stereo should be back to work.
If there are a lot of other things in your car that don´t work anymore maybe one of the main power-fuses in your car is blown. those fuses are usually installed in the engine compartment.

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.
