I can't believe people buy such high priced amps over such cheap talk

Wilson have been selling hundreds of thousands of speakers over the years. Does it sound like a joke?

Sorry the world is running in a way that displeases you 🙂
Sorry that I offended you.
"Wilson have been selling hundreds of thousands of speakers over the years." Can you prove these numbers?
How many pairs of Wilson do you own?
I don't own any Wilson speakers, I think they are overpriced.
If you like Wilson go buy them, like you said, "...hundreds of thousands of speakers over the years."
(Your purchase) = hundreds of thousands + 2

The Tarkus example with a sort of Wilson look or Troels speaker look is a DIY speaker. The builder could have spent money $$$ and bought some Wilson but he chose to DIY- knowing they are not Wilson. Troels site he is a DIYer.

This is a DIY Audio site, is DIY becoming more popular than commercial offerings? It's an alternative.

Perhaps the people who spend absurd amounts of money for amps don't know that the music source source plus the input and output devices primarily determine the quality of sound. The amplifier is the easiest component to design. The difference between amplifiers is tiny in my ears.
Easier to design TRANSPARENT amps because thats what the technology has been aiming at for almost 80 years. I still disagree that the amps under this goal sound the same. Factor in impedance matching, gain structure, how the grounding scheme is both dc and ac side, and you have two amps with similar topology and measurement but with a very different sound. Take the leach amp for example. Everyone still uses it while consumer opinion is still diverse. Is it because of illusion of choice? I dont think so.

But i do agree that you should spend more on a dac. Upstream signal is amplified 20 to 50x down the line and so do its flaws.

But digital equipments are flimsy and constantly go obsolete while amps are big heavy centerpieces. And senseless consumerism rule this market like everywhere else. *shrug

If the dac is so bad while having 0.003... 0.0001 distortions plus noise and the amplifier just raise them 50 X how's that you're able to hear 0.15...0.005% thd caused by the dac yet you don't hear 1...10% distortions caused by the speakers due to a poor amplifier? By the way...50x 2v= 1250w/8ohm...I wonder how's thd+n of a dac sound compared to a speaker's thd + nonlinear distortions at 1200 watts... if you hear the thd+n of a dac at 1Watt I wonder what's the thd+n of a poor dac after i/v converdion at 56 mv output.

Do they sell “hundreds of thousands” of their most expensive speakers, or is that volume limited to less stratospheric models?

Their biggest sales volumes, similarly to other high end manufacturers, come from midrange products such as the Sasha shown in post #17. The cheap desktop speakers are too new to have added significant numbers. Their first speakers from 1980 may appear cheaper until prices are converted to 2022 dollars.
