Hypnotize B1 delay relay circuit

I’m building a Hypnotize B1 buffer, the version by CRT. I found an old stock unused PCB.

I can’t get the delay relay to pull in. It’s such a simple circuit, but I can’t get it to work.

I’m using an Omron 12volt relay as in in the BOM so I have the dropping resistors bridged out. I have 12 volts on the anode of the flyback diode over the relay coil and 7.33 volts on the cathode of the flyback diode. That means the coil of the relay only has 5 volts across it.

I have checked over the circuit several times and I cannot see anything wrong. I have even changed the BC517 and the BC550, but it still does not work.

If I ground the the cathode of the flyback diode over the relay coil the relay will pull in with a click and it will stay in even with 5 volts over the coil.

It’s driving me nuts now, I must be missing something stupid, but I can’t see what!

First Image below is of the Mezmerize version, but the relay delay section is the same. Last image is a sketch of the delay section relay driver. Pictures are of the delay section of my Hypnotize build.

Thanks for your help.

put BC517 in series with relay, short that funny thing in it's base , increase 47K to your liking to have proper delay time . take care of BC pinout

I'm not sure why there is that relay anyway , but keep it if you wish

some informative reading attached

OK, thank you for taking a look. So I will replace the BC550 emitter to base connection with 100k resistor and increase the 47K to 220k and test.

I’m surprised that the circuit does not function as drawn as it’s used for the Mezmerize PCB.
