I'm looking at building my first amp and am looking at a 3 channel using 3 UCD400hg amplifier modules. My questions comes around the power supply. I was thinking of using the SMPS1200A400 rather than 3 separate SMPS400 supplies. Does anybody see any issues with this type of setup? I read somewhere that the SMPS1200 doesn't offer DC protection but I can't remember where I found it. If that's the case what could possibly go wrong?
This will work great. Smps has a DC error input to shut down power supply but amps do not have DC detection build in. This was build in the linear power supplies from hypex. You can build yourself a DC detection and use it to shut down the smps if required. I use a lot of hypex amps without DC protection over lots of years, no problem so far.

Good to hear. I was starting to look at DC protection circuits which I might still do but at least I can get the work off the ground and order parts. Thanks for answering, i'll probably have more questions as I go.

I bought some DC sense boards from "Lazy Cat" Used in his "First One" Amps . They work great on my IRS2092 L15D amps with Connex SMPS2000RxE They should work fine on the Hypex supply , I think his amps use the same supply .
Cheers ,

Good to hear it's possible. I might just run without the DC protection but leave enough room for expandability for later iterations and additions to the overall project. Maybe I'll make this into a long term project and constantly keep updating it.
