I have asked once that question for UCD400/SMPS400.Was wondering if anyone have use the aux supply of the Smps to power
the HxR directly.
Seems the quality of the aux supply is questionable for that purpose.
If you decide to go that way then it is better to build a dedicated PSU for the buffers.
Thks Baka I was told otherwise hence my curisosity.
Have you actually bypass the supply line on the module
& use a dedicated supply for HNR/HPR regs
Many thanks

Not yet but I plan to do that soon.Have you actually bypass the supply line on the module

UCD400 has a preregulator before the HxR regulators.
It also serves to drop down the input voltage from around +-62V to around +-15V.
It is the entry point from the separate psu.
This is maybe more difficult to implement in a case of UCD180...
Yes I have some experience with UCD as well. Playing around with
caps around those pre regs changes the sound a lot. Was thinking
For my HG + HxR I can get even more perfomance if I give it a
dedicated supply. Think aux supply from smps is still better then
tap off onboard module supply. Besides we still can increase cap
capacity or upgrade those caps
Thanks again

It's up to you to decide and try. I think that aux supply is dedicated for auxiliary purposes, not to feed a high quality buffer.Think aux supply from smps is still better then
tap off onboard module supply.
I wouldn't increase the capacitance anywhere. Most often SMPSs do not require high capacitance.Besides we still can increase cap capacity or upgrade those caps
Changing the capacitors in smps - maybe.

Well I have been mucking around with the main supply caps
of the smps & have also increase the capacitance though not
by much more for tweaking the sound

Hello,
I have 2xUCD400HG (HxR) and 2xUCD700HG (HxR) on electrostatic speakers used in bi-amp.
The input source is now, the Linea Research ASC48 (ASC48 – Linea Research).
So I'd like to remove/bridge the two DC input protection caps.
Did someone can point me to the right caps with a photo/explanation?
Any other mod is welcome.
Thanks!

HxR dedicated power supply
Hi
In my next UcD amp I wll use an external input buffer but with HxR modules.
So I am really curious about your findings using a dedicated regulated power supply.
Please let me know?
