Did Bruno missed Something or Hifist just like colored music and need of different buffer to adapt their tastes?
I think that is what a lot of "high-end" vendors are counting on. Hard to compete by being even more transparent than many other transparent systems, much easier to go for a "house sound" (pleasing coloration).
I have compared them head to head many times. I prefer the NC-500's higher power delivery, and the more natural sound from my SIL-994 based buffer. They also measure better if that means anything.
It is said. Thanks for the inputt.
So many questions about what is setuping an amp remains...
The NC-400's don't have lower distortion and noise than the NC-500's
And my buffer based on the SIL 994 and Richards circuit from 4 generations ago wasn't a bottleneck either when you look at the THD+N:

I'm on my 7th generation of NC-500 buffer boards now and every one measured impeccable to every known modern measurement standard. Yet they all sound completely different.
Indeed !
I send you Bruno in Survey stage in the wilde Canada 🙂 (joke off course) 🙂
What changed if the noise floor are so low than even speakers would not see différences : What really changed ? (Does a scope measure can reflect that in this particular example you linked ? )

I have to say all my speakers sound (with the same devices) tottaly different from a room to an other ! Even the good Kef 104/2 ref which are my second best speakers 🙂 (love them )
Sometimes the change is for the better or the worst! When I moved here, it sounded really bad and it took a long time for me to return to one of my favourite hobbies! 🙂

The sound changed. When I get my aPX-555 I will try to figure out what really matters. The manual is over 700 pages long. It's capable of far more than what the AES considers the only things that matter.

Have you ordered it yet? Most likely the best money I have ever spent in audio (albeit half-half with my brother).

No I'm waiting for more boards to come in first. You bought one? $33000 machine for general hobbiest work is quite an investment. Or do you have commercial projects in the works?
In my listening seat my speakers sound great but if I sit a couple of feet to the right they sound boomy. Therefore nobody is allowed to sit in my listening chair.
What I would like to know is if the Hypex standard buffer is so good why do instruments sound more natural and real with the Sonic Imagery op amps. How do they colour the sound to be more like the real thing.
The answer is that the standard Hyper buffers are not as perfect as some think.

No future commercial interest, I can work about three functions! My brother is the smart one currently working for Intel and uses it daily, I just pop by to get things measured and learn from him. I suppose it's family bonding!

Wow with that much is disposable cash laying around I wouldn't even bother tinkering with DIY stuff. But I suppose there's more expensive hobbies around. Don't be shy to share measurement results. 🙂

I wouldn't say that... I helped a family member who needed something, which may further help their career and helps me better understand my hobby... For anyone that pay's list price is also crazy.

With a machine like that, I can imagine he's working on audio gear. What does he have in mind?
Speech Recognition interfaces mostly outside of his day job. Edit: in harsh environments.

Wow I didn't realize such an high end audio measurement device would be required for that. I hope you got the add on to measure I2S jitter for that.
Apparently so, he likes to say its a fair bit more complicated than a microphone 🙂 - It has the AMC. Most of the measurements we have done together have been around computer audio.

The DSIO module is what I'm most excited about playing with. New last Aug only for the 555

It certainly looks interesting and should be able to provide some extremely granular measurements. We should carry this on in PM - may not be the appropriate place to discuss.

Yes. The new module isn't even on the datasheet. It has a crazy precision master clock. But yes I suppose the results from the gear would be a more appropriate discussion for this thread rather than the gear 🙂
