HV diff booster stage - please help / suggest

Hi Rick,

I think the most interesting property of a plate follower is its easily adjustable gain - because its local FB is easily adjustable. It is somewhat overlooked, I admit, but actually was used in commercial and even "professional" gear. It is far from being esotheric.

Below is an example of a plate follower used as an inverter with A = -1 in the third stage (2nd and 3rd stage form a phase splitter). Due to highish local FB distortion is very low even with a very wide swing.

Actually the wide swing possible w/ low distortion was my intention when using the plate follower diff booster as a blueprint for a solid state equivalent. I mean, MOSFETs have a lot of gain to trade for linearity 🙂 OTOH, I am surprised how low the actual transconductance of the IRF710 is @ 5mA Ids.

Kind regards, Tom

That circuit rides at 30v on the anodes. DN2540 Fet or KSC3503 would work there as a drop in replacement.
Irf710 is a great fet. I am using the irf610 as it has somewhat better curves and I am well below 200v Vds limit.
the 610 also has a dandy P channel match in the 9610.
