Huntron Tracker 2000

Wondering if anyone has experience with the Huntron 2000 tracker , from what I understand the lowest ac output is 10v , Read a few posts that say this is too high to test many transistors without damage . Was wondering if it would be possible to lower the minimum voltage to 200-400mv by modifying the unit . any input welcome .. Roger

Yes 1 audio . That is what I would have though , thousands of them have been sold over 20+ years . You would think they can do the job they were intended for without causing damage , I know the newer Huntron 2800 has a lower settings but from what I understand that was only to help isolate transistors from the component you are testing by preventing them from being turned ..Some people using them think they are great but others say they would never touch them because they will destroy components ..Hard to know what to believe on the internet anymore ... For the asking price I have decided to purchase it and see for myself , at very least it will help me understand components better ... Roger

I have a Huntron Tracker 1005B-1S that I heavily modified as well as done major repair work. I redid the low voltage range circuitry because I didn't like how it worked and had to design a new power oscillator when the sealed one failed. The new power oscillator consisted of a Wein-bridge oscillator made from a power amplifier IC.

Huntron's like most "curve tracers" will source higher current at the low voltage ranges than the higher voltage ones. Unfortunately unlike a true curve tracer you cannot increase the series resistor to limit current. You can use an Ammeter to measure the short circuit current to check,

Thanks busaboy , I contacted Huntron today and they said the 2000 is fine for checking transistors in audio , He told me the newer units have even lower voltages to help isolate components from transistors that may be triggered by the higher 10v A/C of the 2000.. Will be bringing it home tomorrow . I will do some test on it and report what I find ..

cheers Roger

Well got the Huntron tracker 2000 home yesterday and checked it over , everything seems to be working fine and I really like it . Came with all the factory manuals, adaptors and jumper leads so it's very complete , the guy must have been a chain smoker because it took me an hour to get all the tar off but she is nice and clean now . it also came with it's mating Huntron 640 Switcher . Don't know what exactly a switcher is used for , anyone ever use one , something to do with checking IC chips I think . Also picked up a HP-428 clamp probe meter .had to pull the tubes and clean the sockets but now it's working fine, and finally a small more less novelty HP-3215 power supply but though it was cool . have pretty much all my basic's equipment now .cheers Roger
