Humbucker with piezo preamp .....

1) yes they will work very well, in fact better than going straight, go figure.

2) most "Piezo Preamps" are usually just buffers (unity gain) or at most have a couple dB gain, for the very good reason that piezo pickups are *loud* on their own, they just can't drive low impedances.

3) as a practical rule, a 9V battery powered preamp can have maximum clean gain of 3X , any further they will clip with a humbucker.
Double that for single coils.

Thanks ! I'm going to try it ............

Cool.

To clearly hear its usefulness, first connect your guitar to an amp with a long cable, then repeat with a short cable to the preamp and the same earlier long one from preamp to guitar amp input.

After a few minutes playing, go back to the straight cable, it will sound lifeless and muddy by comparison.

My reason :
My studio is directly beneath power lines and I have a big guitar hum problem. I recently bought a piezo (with preamp) guitar and it is somewhat quieter. I have an archtop with humbuckers that is deep enough to allow a preamp.

It will help you a lot, but consider shielding your whole studio, no kidding.

Grounded metal (not plastic) mosquito net/chicken wire will work very well, applied in overlapping panels and then covered in, say, crude colour linen or something, the cheapest cloth you can find, think cheap raw bedsheet material by the yard.
It will also help with acoustic treatment.

I've thought along those lines, but that's pretty extreme ... 🙂
I'll see how well the preamp works ..... ordered one of these:
GFS EAP-520 Acoustic Preamp LCD 4-Band EQ onboard tuner
Will put on a Rondo similar to one of these:
Hollow Bodies Artcore - AF55 | Ibanez guitars

Beautiful guitar )

In fact, if guitars had followed a normal development curve like everything else, by now the *standard* guitar should come with active electronics and full controls like you are doing now; it didn't so just because Rock Musicians are so incredibly conservative (that's the understatement of the century).

Only here is a 1956 made product considered much better than anything made later, even today.

Oh well 🙂
