I'm having trouble figuring out how to wire a dummy load resistor between amp and scope. The resistor could be in three spots: the positive output, the negative lead (probably not), or it could straddle both leads. Apologize if I'm phrasing the question wrong.

Parallel the load with the source (amp output), then connect the scope across the load. Assuming the amp output negative connection is not floating all should be good.
