thanx rudolf, bob and GM;
i have a lot of thoughts, especially about speakers, haahah. Always im thinking and re-thinking the designs, i m reading a lot but never build something, always looking at the best speaker for very thight budget.
Mr brines fe164 will be very good but i like bass, i like bass a lot. not boomy but thight fast and a lot, (hahaha). So im thinking about a lot of designs, and maybe combining them.
For example:
a woofer which could be in an transmissionline and do the frequency from 25-400hz(there are all sorts cheap(well rather) good drivers like the peerless 315 i think)
a tweeter like the peerless WA10, does everyting right.
a midrange : this is where the problem lies,(i have red this and i believe this also) to get this right is the difficult part. For this i would maybe use an openbaffle thing. But a good CHEAP midrange in openbaffle-driver isn't easy to find.
i know this is a far end of the beautiful design of mr brines full range speaker which will sound very good.
I think also that equalizing is a good thing, i didn t believe in it, but after reading linkwitz pages, i get the point. So if you re able to make a good equalizer you can get things right. So i will start also reading about equalizing and how to design them (hahah; within 5 years i will be able to understand it, haha).
But to cut things short. I wanna make a good speaker with whom i can live the next 5 years, efficency isnt important, because i have no money to buy or build an tube amp, so i m keeping the nad for a while. I hope to buy the drivers on ebay, so i depend a little bit at what they are offering. So if i wanna build the tree way with the tl-bass and the openbaffle midrange, i got to find a good midrange or maybe a good fullrange that can cope with 200-4000 (or 5000 or even up).
if i cant find that for a reasonalbe price, im gonna make mr brines second ml-tqwt : the peerless pipe, (i know i m changing a lot, please do forgive me, it s just that i want the best for the money, and hopefully i get it, 🙂 ) But a little question, why did mr brines did not use the hds182, it has exellent waterfall diagram, is it because it has only an fs of 44.9, or it was to expensive , or something else ? Anyway if i dont find a good midrange or fullrange that takes over the midrange, im gonna build the peerless pipe (at least i think, i m sorry but every morning i wake up and new thoughts are spinning through my head, like a friend o mine says : hifi it's a disease.
oh yeah, im gonna measure the spl in my room, a friend of mine has an db meter, it will help me a lot about the loudness problem
thanx a lot, for everything,
now im going to try to study a bit, because those speakers are really getting me off the track ,ahahah,
bye

If you decide to do the "Peerless Pipe":
The 7" CSX and HDS drivers are virtually identical except for the frame. They are drop in replacements for each other. If the cast frame is worth the price, go for it!
Rather than use the Peerless tweet specifiec (811815), go for one of the Seas 27 TFFC or TDFC tweets. Much better sound and a drop in for this design.

Maybe I'm just tired and grumpy, but would someone address my point in post #16? Am I misunderstanding something?
