Hello,
I do HRTF measurements in university's lab. I have a HRTF data in SOFA file. I need to know the best way how to test if the HRTF data are correct. Last option was: There was a chair in the middle of room. The person sit on the chair with headphones on his head and before him was a speaker. The same sound came from headphones and speaker and the person had to spin on the chair until he thought he heard the sound from the same direction. But there were some errors because of headphones (you could not head the speaker so well when you have a headphones).
I would like to ask, if you have any idea how to test it. Or if you know any pages where can I find some useful data. Also if you know any software for play HRTF data in SOFA file (now I use plugin in VLC and it would be great to have something more profesional).
Thank you a lot for any answer.

Hello:
Your question is concerns a fairly recent psychoacoustic test procedure and an open-source file format (SOFA) specifically designed by the scientific community to make this kind of research easily communicable. Thus it is likely those involved can easily help you translate the embedded audio and text data into any standard format. The fact that your school is involved means that it is quite serious about acoustic perception and I would think your peers or professors would be able to help you. I love this stuff and will try to help too. 🙂
SOFA Background
Video introduction to SOFA and HRTF Measurement with associated AES Journal Paper
The video presentation was given by a principle developer in Rome a few years ago at an AES event. You should join the AES immediately if you are not already a member or student member. I got over 1,000 hits when I searched on the term HRTF in their "E-Library" a few minutes ago.
I would appreciate it if you would keep us informed on your progress and findings. 🙂
