How to quiet bought OHP

I have been enjoying my projector (Optoma EzPro 756) very much but it is a little noisy for my likes. The projector is currently cooled by 2 temp controlled fans (they look like 60mm or 80mm ones) which are in the front, air is sucked in then blown out the lens, a very efficient design to cool the lens and bulb, but since the fans are in the front all the noise also goes out the front 🙁

I tried building a 5 sided box, which was then lined with SONEX sound proofing foam, the projector could still fully breath since air goes both in and out the front, but the box did little to dampen the noise.

Next I thought the best way to kill the noise will be to either change or remove the fans, I thought I'd ask first though if anyone has done this?

Another idea is to make a duct which uses a 120mm quiet fan then adapts to the front of the projector.

Any other ideas or experiences doing this?

There's very little you can do about airflow noise
If its the fan bearings that are the main cause of the noise though, you would benefit by replacing the fans with quieter ones.
If the fans are transfering vibration to the OHP case which will very likely amplify the vibration you could fit rubber seperators to mount the fans to the case

The noise seems to be mostly from the sheer speed of the fans and air blowing through the grill in the front of the projector. Also air is moving opposite what I stated previously, it is sucked in through the lens, then blown out the front.

Perhaps a duct facing upwards which is lined with sound dampening material could help, kind of like a muffler 😀

You guys should follow what PC case modders are doing. There are lots of quiet PC projects out there.

Sound foam is just a sound barrier. Use it to redirect noise to an absorbing material. Don't ask 😕, its complicated. Better to pull out a physics book and think about how to convert sound enery into something else...

The home ventilation industry has very quiet small fans. Ive seen silent 4" fans with huge air flow but they are expensive. Start with a quiet source and design :shhh:

12v power adaptor

Yeh i find OHP fans too powerfully loud also because they move such alot of air, PC fans are an option as said above, but you would need to rig them up to a 12v power supply , I use a plugin 12v power adaptor (from my old port CD player), stripped the wiring and rigged the fans up to that, I also had a 5v power adaptor (from my old mobile phone) and rigged the fans cooling the LCD to that one which runs slower, some silent fans use rubber spacers to bolt into to stop the fan noise vibrating through PC cases, you would need to test this stuff out theough to make sure nothing overheats, hope it helps, cheers
