how to make FRD of idealized filter response?

Some software packages that I use have no function to overlay an ideal filter or EQ slope over a real-time measurement. The ability to do this by importing an FRD file into measurement software would make my life a lot easier when designing filters.

Is there a simple way to create FRD files with a customized ideal filter response?

SpeakerWorkshop will allow you to create goal curves from flat to 4th order across different poles/types (Bessel, Butterworth, LR etc...). won't do higher orders and can be cumbersome to use. Can export as FRD.

May be easier to crack open OpenOffice Calc / Excel and bust out the formulas.

VituixCAD has target curves built in so no need to export or import anything for crossover work in VituixCAD. Maybe there is possibility to export FRD of a target curve as well if you have to use some other program.

edit. easy and fast with VituixCAD if you need to generate FRD for another program, hope it helps: open up a new project, it already contains "ideal" driver so drag and drop digital filter to the xo diagram and wire it all together (source-filter-driver). Hit Export from the File menu. There is frequency response export that can output to .frd file among all kinds of other options. ps. use diffraction tool to export full "spinorama", simulated frequency responses to off-axis angles as well.
