how to insert online image (via its web address) into post?

Sometimes I want to display an online image from elsewhere on the web in a post, e.g. http://www.blah...blah.jpg. It seems the only option with the current software is to download the image and then upload it to the post. Is there a way to display a web image directly?

To show what they look like. Say you copy an image link into your post thus:
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0c/Shure_mikrofon_55S.jpg/220px-Shure_mikrofon_55S.jpg

then click post, it will appear as a link not an image. When you edit your post it will look like this
[URL]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0c/Shure_mikrofon_55S.jpg/220px-Shure_mikrofon_55S.jpg[/URL]

but you want it like this..
[IMG]https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/0/0c/Shure_mikrofon_55S.jpg/220px-Shure_mikrofon_55S.jpg[/IMG]

So, IIUC, I should manually edit the post after first posting it and change both the begin and end tags from URL to IMG?

Yep, we are missing the Image tag button. It can be done by hand as shown above, if you need to.

Charlie, all you need is the link to the image and put img (in brackets) in front of it. The software will close the tag for you.

Mooly you have URL tags inside your IMG tags. Not gonna work like that.

Weird. The first time I tried this it worked straight off, now it doesn't. As Pano says, the forum adds the second [/IMG] tags. Ah, it has added both a URL and an IMG at the beginning and end. Nothing visible in edit mode until you toggle BB code button.

Pano... just seen your post... I know, the forum is doing that itself for me. I'm not doing it.

I see a problem. The forum software want to close the IMG tag, but it does it at the end of the post. So other text ends up in the link and it doesn't resolve.

Something is happening for sure. Also if you go into edit mode you can not see the link and IMG tag unless you toggle BB code button. The first one I did at the start worked in preview mode, I then posted and it was broken, just the link and no image.

No. I can't see how. has to be done by hand of something comes after.
