you would need an adapter that goes from RCA-input to VGA out-put. Video converters do this. If you plan on using a PC as your media center then you can get a video-in card for your pc, then just connect the monitor to the PC.

Cheapest you'll be able to find is the $69 "Cheesebox"

Nahhh you can do much cheaper than 60....go to a video game store....and look for an xbox/gamecube to VGA converter....find the pin for video input and go right through there
could you elaborate on that a bit eebasist?. . .what kind of pircture quality would you get with that type of setup as opposed to a cheesebox or tv-3000? . . .specific models you could mention? Is this something you have done? as far as I understand xbox/gamecube video signals are never just one pin. Please correct me if im wrong.
Anyone know where we can get the cheesebox a little cheaper.
Or maybe something similar to it.
I like the idea of that thing....

items similar to this will convert video to VGA
SVGA and XGA cost more

I would like a converter so that I can connect my lcd controller to the pci slot on it.
I think I can do this with the cheesebox, but I"m looking for something cheaper....

Check out the SIlicon Image iScan Ultra. Lots of video inputs, VGA and DVI outputs.
Or you can very easily build a component-video-to-VGA converter with an LM1881 (or similar parts from Zetex) and a handful of opamps. S-Video and composite wil be harder, but I'm sure someone makes an IC for it.

Yeah, coponent to vga is easy with the lm1881, I have 5 of those chips here to build vga cable for xbox. The problem is that I have nothing that use coponent! Only composite or my PC. So to play my dvd I'll use my PC with powerdvd, but I'm looking for some schematics to build a converter for composite to vga. I don't know if building a line doubler will be complicated
Can I buy something like this and build a convertion box?

VHS and DVD, 480p..
I have some lm1881, I could build a convertion box. Will it work? And will everything works on my monitor. I mean, will the vhs, the cable and dvd works on componant to vga? or only the dvd??

Thanks.... anyone know of any TV PC Cards?
Hi All,
Thanks for all the replies.... just to give more info on my situation. I am using a Laptop so I am limited on the cheap solution for TV input etc... Ideally I would like to view the TFT screen standalone from my Laptop.
But on the other hand I wouldn't mind picking up TV on my laptop when travelling. So anyone know of a solution of a TV card/PCMCIA or USB which does not require external power?
Thanks again!
Andrew
