How to fix a short-circuited amp?

I'm running a Kenwood KAC 7252 to two Kicker 12" Comps. I was driving along and they were cutting in and out. I took a look and it appears two wires touched and it won't send out very much power anymore. Part of the plastic below where the ground wire goes is melted. It still hooks up and turns on, but will barely move my subs at all.

Wondering if there is a way to repair the amp or is it a complete loss? I know how to solder so thats not a problem. Just curious as to what the problem is.

I know nothing about the particular amp, but you are going to need to open it up to get an idea of what is wrong. Could be anything from blown rail fuses to blown output transistors, drivers, and who knows what else. Look for obviously burned components.

Tony.
