Effectively you lay it out the same way as making a lid for a box with cardboard.
You don't need any fancy machinery if it's aluminum and you have a table with a sharp edge, a mallet (or a hammer wrapped in a towel), a ruler, etc.
You can bolt the corners instead of soldering/welding. You can even bond them with glue.
Will it look perfect if made this way? No. But it's DIY. not CIO (contract it out), right? 🙂
