How to do "Ceiling" LEDs?

There are LED optics (internal reflectors) made for the 1W/3W star-mounted LEDS. I've considered putting a row of 1W stars on a curved mount and letting them project on the wall or ceiling. The 1W stars are pretty cheap if you buy them on eBay. Or, you could just use magnifying glasses (convex lenses). They'd be trickier to mount, but should give a tighter focus; the LED optics are intended for lighting applications, so they tend to give wide, uniform beams, not a tight spot.
