How to create line out to sub from passive pre?

Well it's not really a passive pre but just Goldpoint dual monos in a box with single outputs. I've been told I can connect a 50K resistor from each hot output and join them at another RCA jack for summed line out to the sub's plate amp.
Is it really that simple?

Yes and no.

You will be compromising stereo seperation by a fair margin.

Having the 50K series resistors at the pre-amplifier end
will limit any capacative loading effects of the cable.

If the sub has stereo line inputs in this case the capacitance
of the two cables will have a serious effect with any pre-amp,
(in my experience), nevermind a passive one, if the sub-out
is not buffered from the main power amplifier out.

Sounds like a case for using speaker level inputs ?

🙂 sreten.

there might be one problem..

hi, you might have a problem sending an adequate signal to your subwoofer. Your main amplifier itself will draw quite a large amount of signal off of your source (cd?), and to get a good signal for that, the volume will have to be turned up quite a bit.. It is very difficult to send a good strong signal without separate gain stages (i.e. active) preamp.
