How to clean the Tang Band's sticky shiny rubbery surrounds ?

Hi folks and guys who have Tang Bands, how do you clean the shiny sticky rubbery(it's not sticky or rubbery now as dust got stuck on it) part which is between the surrounds and the cone ?

I'm afraid to use water in case it damages the cone or some other chemical cleaning substance which will eat the rubber.

Is there any chemical substance which repels dust as well and doesn't eat the sticky rubber ?

Ammonium Hydroxide diluted to 50% with water is a cleaning agent used to remove industrial pressure sensitive adhesives. Household ammonia at 5% or so is still very effective in certain situations. The sticky you get on rubber strapped outdoor seating comes clean in a wipe, better than any other cleaner I've tried.

Thank you very much guys guys! Does it stay sticky after you clean it or it modifies the texture ? I have read that it could be some viscous silicone used for damping :O If it's removed it cound negate the effect of the damping :/

If it is not a coating (sticky gooey stuff) than I would use masking tape or scotch brand tape to remove the dust. And be careful that the tack from the tape is not too strong that it would stretch the surround. I would not use any type of solvent as it may leach onto the cone and or affect the adhesive between the cone and surround. But that is just me.

Weird problem for us such an expensive driver.
My immediate instinct would be to use lukewarm water with a little bit of soap on a Q-tip and try to very gently massage it off.

A little bit of water or water vapor is not likely to permanently damage the paper cone or the surrounds glue, as it is naturally present in the atmosphere at all times to some extent.

Maybe write Tang Band to hear what they have to say about the problem.

Cornstarch, applied with a soft brush. This works better as a preventative measure on new drivers, but will also scrub off some dust and cat hair. It will turn the sticky, glossy black to a satiny grey colour.
