I have a 1967 Sylvania phono console that plays great, but isn't as loud as I would like. It has external speakers jacks that aren't being used. Is there anything I can do to boost the sound (Pre-amp, new speakers, anything) without breaking the bank? I don't know much about electronics, so if you can try and keep it simple for me. I was thinking maybe hooking some kind of amp from the external speaker jack to a new set of speakers, I don't even know if you can do this but it was just an idea. Thanks for helping me.
Hi,
simply connect a pair of high efficiency speakers and disconnect any internal speakers.
If you want to make them :

no reason not to experiment with this sort of thing...
your consloe, tube or solid state?
reply to question
it is a solid state amp. There is a left and right external speaker jack in the back, and a jack for remote speakers. I just want it to be louder. will hooking two new speakers up to the external jack possibly make it any louder, or will it cut down on the original speakers volume. It is one of those huge stereo phono consoles.
