How should I wire my 1500 watt speakers?

well "I try to get out, but they keep sucking me back in"

I hate to beat a dead horse punkrokr. If I had unnlimited cash....then I'd do...

The way this thread has turned out, is exactly what I gave up on about 110 posts ago. There has to be some realistic decisions made regarding the intended use, other equipment (including the amp to drive the speakers), and crossover..whether passive or active.
Nothing has been reasolved and the basic questions and considerations and suggestions made then still probably apply. Now we find out there really is a budget -regardless of the reason(whether something unforseeable has happened or the purchase of a new bass or , or or, ). Please know I am not picking on you, and in some ways I am jealous that at 14, you are trying to do something creative with your time, effort and hard earned money.

I keep coming back to a well designed system that already exists, that (I am pretty sure) none of your buddy's systems will touch. At $563.33 for parts including pretty much everything you need except cabinets, the Magna Cum Laudes are a bargain. Hey, finish them in whatever cheesy finish ya want , how about green hammertone? Just make sure ya finish the inside of the cabinet in exactly the same manner. Change for the sake of change , just to be different often results in a pretty poor end result.
Add a 4 channel digital amp, and an electronic crossover and avoid the cross over problems (locally pawn shops sell Pro style cross overs for typically $100 CDN, so USD$85ish). You'll have future proofed your system. Unique is nice, pride of design is great and so too is pride of building. Total price would be in the $1000 USD range, and would be a sound that can stay with you as you mature as a listener, yet loud enough to shaker yer teeth out.

Tinitus'offer? a design? (PM me if ya care to share an alternative without all the what ifs)

I'll check back in another 100 posts or so.

well, looks like everyone pretty much given up on me

No way, dude! Read the posts. I have TWO KILLER systems that will fit your budget and knock your walls down.

For about the same $$$

1 X 18
1 X 12
per side.

OR

4 X 15
2 X 8
per side

plus x-overs, tweeters, that sort of stuff.

Don't give up! You're almost there.

thats ok then, new budget.....

You know, those nice quality Eminence 15" bass and 12" mid and Selenium 1" drivers I suggested to you......

They are about 500usd....list price....pr speaker.....and PE offer discount on request on Eminence...

Who knows.....its a lot of drivers ordered from the same compagny.........you might get them fore less than your budget.....thats the beauty of it....quality at low cost 😉

And Punk.....its not to take away your fun, on the contrary.....but its a lot of money....and work.....has to be perfect.....

There would be a way with that 12"LTD (whizzer cone removed)....with a single 18".....but I think it is stated pretty clear that what you need is two 15"....and get better use of mid/high 🙂

well, thanx guys.

It's just that some poeple are arguing amongst themselves and I get lost then when I think I got it down the drivers that were recommended to me are then ridiculed so I'm just gonna sit back and take it all in then I'll see what I have to work with.

Actually, I got it down I want dual woofer for sure as far as tweeters and mid range go it's a free for all.

Hell later I might even put in 4 woofers.
Who knows.

So now you've got a closely estimated budget, and what I want the speakers to be like.

That was my thought too.

I'm not surprised pukr is confused. There's been got to have been over a dozen suggests and I'd only really consider one of them, so we're in agreement on that point.

Guys, your absolutely right....but what do you own yourselves....and what kind of trouble....funny that we often want others to reasonable.....and what do we do ourselves....I guess many of us wouldnt be here, if it wasnt so....what do you say; "the stuff dreams are made of".....dont be such nannies; its boring

I fore one am sure what I would like to own myself....and keep for years... 😎

I can't believe english is my first language and I write that disjointed junk. Retard.

OK, cool.

So lets stick with:

Two 15s per side.
One midrange.
One horn type tweeter.
Active crossover from low to mid.
Passive cross mid-high

So let's find 15s that will fit the budget.

DAYTON DC380-8 15" "Classic Woofer" $91 per side
SELENIUM 15PW3 Pro driver $143 per side.
Eminence Beta 15 Pro driver $140 per side.

With dual PRO 15s, you will need a 12 cubic foot box.
With dual Dayton 15 classics you could go to 8 feet or less.

Then the mid:
Hammer 8" $25 per side
Beta 12LTA. $58 per side

Either one will be great. It doesn't matter. Some people will like the 8, others the 12. Again, doesn't matter. Go with what your gut tells you. Both are great.

Tweeter: $36.20 per side
Use the driver and wave guide from the Blue Wonder.

Passive crossover.
Dayton XO2W $25 per side (frequency to be determined)

Then the active electronics.
Amps and Crossover:
Behringer.
Look on eBay. You can get them there all day long at great prices.

Stereo 2 way crossover and 250W or more amp.

You could even go with a car type crossover. They have bass boost, which you might want.

Well, I think Punk have had some crazy ideas....along with the rest of us....and at the moment all his money is safe.....not so bad at all.....but for how long....I guess we have to keep him occupied fore some time....to keep him out of trouble.....must be that nannie thing :smash:

Thing is we were skilled loudspeaker designers to start with, it makes all the difference. Here I'm thinking; First build, shifting preference and conflicting/misleading information? Hmm not what I'd call ideal, The good thing is the enthusiasm.

In these situations you really can't beat a tried and tested design.

Its all well and good saying "get drivers x, y and z." But I and others know first hand that what looks to be a good compliment isn't always the case, sad but true. What measurement facilities does he have? Or if your designing it - Do you have the drivers? Design and mesurement data? Have you built and heard the design?

All that may sound 'boring' but frankly if your going to do something at least give it the attention it deserves which leads me back to a tried and tested desig. With careful choice these are verified designs and not simply speculative suggestions on forum.

I think nearly all of us started with a kit and its what hooked me in because it was approachable, had instant results yet gave a glimpse into huge possibilities. It was that which made me come back for more. Had the thing failed, been a waste of money or made me question the appeal... well I doubt I would have bothered again.

We were all that way once... I still want the tower of speakers, but I do now have a different perspective on things.

BTW, punk really only needs a pair of these: http://www.reaudio.com/xxx_specs.html

Or maybe a couple of 15" TCSounds LMS 5400:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Probably a better choice would be the 15" TC 5200:

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Pricey but would be worth considering for the next project after this one should the bug bite and he feels the need for even greater depth, and more importantly, quality of bass.

The RE XXX drivers are good, I had a v.3 15" a couple of years ago and it certainly rocked.

What do I have.....a pair of DIY 3-way with ScSp/Vifa.....plays fantastic....and now I think they are boring....which they are actually not

At the moment I am working with a pair of CSS 125FR and Vifa XT19.....isnt that kind of fun

I have a project with a DIY 6" midrange.....modified cheap 15"....and a 5" DIY ribbon.....I have all parts....heavens knows when that will play

That is the FUN in DIY,

I got my Canton's at a thrift shop for 10$ in near perfect shape. They were a little dirty, but eeh, works for me, for now.
