First models were based on Threshold schematics, with high quality Japanese parts.
Later versions began to diverge, still with high quality parts.

I have two CA-7A preamps. I upgraded one with SoniCaps between amp stages, and the OpAmps with OPA2134's. I have not yet upgraded the second one. Anyone against doing the same to the second preamp? (the upgraded one is great IMHO)
No insights there, as I did not participate in their preamps. The boyz at Nakamichi did introduce me to the then-new Toshiba Jfets.

Thanks for your reply, Mr. Pass. I also have a Nakamichi OMS-7AII that took years to find a replacement laser assembly. Unfortunately, one of the rubber idler wheels has melted, and that needs replacement. My first Nakamichi was their 700. I bought used while in the Army living in Berlin. It worked fine for nearly 6 months then the power supply died. After warranty of course. That power supply was essentially overloaded and died twice more before I replaced the entire PS circuit board with a perfboard of my own design. It survives to this day. Thanks again for your reply.
