In rotation. Some of Bartons best work. From "i" silvrer line. Actually I think there only branded as the "mini". I've heard these were created primarily for 2 channel listening. But made perfect rear channel stand ins for the multi channel. 2ch only for me. 2.2
English speakers from that time period are also nice. We might have a few fans of those here 😉.
With so many new speakers coming out its easy to forget some.

Agreed <. There are many USA made I like. Going even further back to Boston A100 - A400.
The acoustic suspension hayday during the 80s.
I will get to owning small Magnepans one of these days.

Maggie 1.5 is not exactly small…. But the LRS is. Can’t recommend it though. Completely unlistenable without massive EQ and proper bass system crossed over fairly high, at least 250 Hz. Or higher. Even so, the larger Maggies like 1.7 are better I think.
To clear the record I was not referring to his 1.5s. I mean even small-er. I almost grabbed a model that optionally wall mounts. Perhaps larger ones, but not to discount the really small. I'm not being specific at all atm.
From about 1991 are the first new hifi speakers I ever bought, and still have and use: JPW Sonatas
Solidly built, sealed, veneered cabinets. The actual cone diameter of the ELAC woofers is about 5" and they had a decent xmax for the time, these are crossed to audax TW010 piezo tweeters at about 6khz with a low order crossover IIRC (might almost be considered a tweeter-assisted full-range?). Not expensive, but they do a lot right; beating much more costly (and often bigger) speakers of the time.

I bought a pair of Sonata's for my dad around the same time, not that he could have cared if the sound was coming out of an old sock, but I ran them in for him and was well impressed with the SQ. They were about £30 or £40 I think.
I’m going to ook these Isophon Combi up next.

My hi-fi adventures started with building diy speakers back in my teens when mono was still predominant in the UK.
I progressed to stereo via the pair of Wharfedale RS/12/DD full range drivers that I bought in 1969. The drivers have occupied several iterations of diy enclosure over the years, and are still in use in my man cave.
Also still in use is a pair of Mordaunt-Short MS100 "High Definition" speakers from 1989. The working principle is like that of the JPW Sonata, but the MS100 employs an in-house MS mid/bass driver instead of the, very similar in appearance, Elac unit. Mine are in Black Ash wood veneer, but the attached image shows up the quality of the veneering more clearly.

Those look great. From the early 60's I'm guessing?I’m going to ook these Isophon Combi up next.
Or earlier.
I could not find a date.
Want to listen to them before selling them. I have heard some, friends that are artists have a pair hanging from their 12” ceilings (driven by an NAD).

I loved my sealed Advent's.
Boston 'A' speakers to (circa? With factory seas). Reminded just missing a great deal for original 200s
I sometimes wonder why sealed designs were dropped after that hayday period?
The ones you'll find now are in higher end of markets like ATC and others, or diy.
I'm gona play with something that couldn't be much more different, OB full range, but the giant stands will still.

Even while not being use they'd be cool room deco.
So how do they sound? I hope you don't say tinny 😛
Those Audax tweeters were proper coil designs and not piezo as far as I know. They had a high natural resonance frequency and natural second order rolloff. When paired with a simple single cap crossover this formed a 3rd order acoustic crossover.Audax TW010 piezo tweeters at about 6khz with a low order crossover IIRC.
Those tweeters and their siblings were extremely popular back in the day.
These audax like tweeters are until today produced in big quantities because they can be produced by machines and sound goodThose tweeters and their siblings were extremely popular back in the day
Here my project with it
