MJE 15030/31 data TO-220:
Continuous current: 8 A
Peaak current: 16 A
Total dissipation: 50 Watt
Max temp: 150 Degrees C
Rjc: 2.5 C/W
Where is the Watt limit, would you say, when using MJE15030/31 as output devices?
Is there some good option to use when choose TO-220 devices?
I also have considered MJE3055T/2955T. 10 A and 75 Watt. 1.67 C/W.

MJE15030 series, as the spec sheet states; 50Watts MAX assuming your power supply is of sound design.
TO220 are single bolt fixing for quickness but lower power than TO3 types because they cannot dissipate heat as fast as TO3.

Yes, 40-50% the specified Watt.
I agree.
Rjc value is not very impressive for MJE15030/31. As much as 2.5 C/W.
There are other TO-220 with better value. Best at approximate 1.4 C/W

If you insist on going TO-220, BD243C/244C can handle even more.
If I remember correctly, some BDX-types can handle again even more than the BD´s 😉
