how might I cut and open this klam's aperture without ruining everything?

I'm old, vision doesn't converge and not a good woodworker to begin with.

maybe take a 2 foot flexi ruler and draw new lines which open to full width at the end? A jigsaw blade would have to be shortened as to not bang the panel below the wings. Ive not driven for 25yr. and know no one locally who could/would attempt the feat.

Someone with a router and skill could do it nicely - I'm worse than dead broke so can't send them 2000 miles for an operation.

My builder may have gotten a reference off so the nose looks like so

Rather than it should look as with Carl Neuser's original:

If I were rich, I'd have a pair built correctly as a nice size to be able to lift
onto tripod and have some punch. Then again, aybe a 38 degree coupler would work as well or better ?

A trim router with a pattern bit and a template would be ideal. Do you have a friend that does kitchen counter work?

Are there any woodworking clubs near you? I have found that hobbyist woodworkers in general like to help others. You might find someone on this woodworking forum that's near you.

I ran out of edit time above. What I was trying to say is add site: before a URL and add your search parameter with a space either before or after it. For example for the state of WV;

I sincerely appreciate all that detective work ! Its been 25 years since I've driven and have very little contact with anyone other than the internet.

A few years back, I found a locak guy on Craigslist - pure BS-er - took money, then claimed he produced two Karlsonator and that someone stole them off his porch - then asked for money to build them again. Thankfully I lucked out and found Jesse Brunner to do some work before I got ill and went broke.

Karlson's original asymmetric projectors, at least three, (KR5 Rocket, APX/Phase III Oliver projector, and the 15 inch AP100/Oliver "Magna Clam") all had vents. The vents were covered with grill cloth so probably did not add much to output.

Wayne Neuser's little sub used a passive radiator and from its blurry picture, think the active driver fired into the bottom with that radiation coming out at a bottom slot of the front chamber.

My 15 inch klam at home with sealed back chamber was real good - only change I'd make is to reduce the rear chamber length (rear chamber volume is a bit large imo)

It might be wise at higher input power with vented klam to use a highpass filter as some program or type of program (heavy percussion) could drive the speaker out of its gap with info below the useful passband.

Karlson's klams had about a 30 degree angle and thus pretty long front section. Alan Weiss's version was close to 40 degrees.

The "Clam" -pattern asymmetric projector came from Karlson figuring out that his KR5 "Rocket" type could be rotated 90 degrees from upright to create a new use for that type which are affectionately called "klam"

Here's some images starting with an Oliver Phase III pair. Note the cool ceiling speaker for a 6x9. Miaco has a nice 6c9 fullrange 🙂

regarding the router - I may have a full size router -if not in too poor of shape What router bit would it need to ride a template and cut 3/4" plywood.

A template could screw to the wings, then fill the holes when done. Dunno if I can make a good template. If there were space. a radial arc would work but am at my kid's place where any woodwork would be verboten.

To avoid cleats or strips under the Klam wings there are a couple of solutions. Wooden plugs can be glued into holes drilled into the back side with forstner bits. The screws from the sides then bite into the plugs rather than plywood edges. Another approach would be metal cabinet connectors again inserted into holes drilled from the back side.

Freddi, if you could gently remove your wings by removing screws and heating glue joint you might be able to come up with removable wings for Klam aperture experimentation or just modify yours with a jig saw or belt sander. If yours are nailed and glued it might be harder to do but not impossible.
