When I previously said I would attend, I believe I said I didn't have anything to show.

However, I just changed my mind & thought I would bring a mid-fi set-up that is not DIY, but perhaps worth discussing with a DIY crowd.
I've got a pair of (vintage) JVC Zero 4 speakers that I have very mixed feelings about...picked them up at a garage sale. I won't go into too much detail here, but JVC apparently tried to build a top-quality speaker line with the Zero's & the Zero 4 was towards the bottom of the line. The woofers would need re-foaming if I was to restore, but they do have ribbon tweeters that I'm pretty sure I've seen some DIY'ers asking about on other posts...so perhaps you've got suggestions.
I'll bring along an unrestored vintage TOTL Kenwood KR9400 receiver & a cheap PCDP source to get some sound to the Zero4's. Maybe we could think of this set-up as similar to that rusty unrestored muscle car & figure out what direction to go.

Well the sub is in the truck so ready or not!

Have to load a bit oh stuff in the morning. But that will be rather easy.

See you at the community center Pierre. I'll bring the extension cords and such. I have a bag of weird connectors and some odd lengths of speaker wire that may be helpfull.
Not all I wanted to bring is ready but what I have will be there.

Hi Guys,

Well, after a whirlwind evening and several glasses of port, the second line array is done, so they'll be making their maiden voyage tomorrow to the community center for all to see. My Behringer DEQ2496 also arrived, which means the line arrays will be sounding their best.

Ron:

Sounds like some great vintage gear, and I'm more than happy to listen to anything that's around, so bring it along!

Mark:

I'm looking forward to hearing the horns and whatever else you bring. I have absolutely no experience with horn subs in general, so it'll be really neat to hear.

I have a few possible prizes I can bring along, but I'm not sure what people will be interested in. Maybe I'll bring what I have, and let everyone decide.

Hope to see you all tomorrow, and a big thanks in advance to Pierre for getting everything organized and showing the initiative to get all this off the ground! I'll be there at around 9:30am as I need to swing by work before I make my way over.

See you all tomorrow!
Owen

For all and everyone who came thanks for a great time. For those who couldn't come Where are you????

I think that it is safe to speak in behalf of all when I say we all enjoyed the meet and I think everyone has expressed interest in having another one. The timing will be important so any thoughts on when the next meet should be or could be held?

The fall?

Timing for next event

I am pleased to see this group is hanging together and would love to join you. Until this group was formed it was my intention to join the Montreal Audiophile Club. As to the next meeting, autumn seems like the next logical time given most peoples commitments over the summer. The Ottawa Vintage Radio Club (ovrc.org) meetings stop over the summer for this reason.

Someone asked "where are you", as general interest seems higher than actual event attendance. As for myself, I work Saturdays repairing vintage electronics for others, so Saturday is never a good day. This week's meeting, in particular, was bad timing as it fell on the Father's Day weekend and I had other commitments.

Have you considered holding a meeting on a Sunday afternoon, simply to see if this improves attendance?

Regards,

Barry

I'm the someone who posted "Where are you guys?"

It's not a put down. It there to get some discussion going. If there is interest in doing this more than once a year then great. Not everyone has to bring something new all the time. I enjoyed looking at the guys equipoment. But I really enjoyed listening to all the music they brought. That is really quite simple in terms of what has to be there.

Personally the venue was awesome for sound quality considering what I have been in other times.

Pierre did a great job in setting this up and I'd like to thank him publically.

I think we need first a vote on when to set up meet two if there is to be a meet two.

It was indeed a great time. I was surprised at the low turnout but we still had a full day of listening with much experimentation. While some were able to stay the full day, others came by early and some later. Some came, left for a time and returned after meeting other obligations. The point here is: don't write the event off if you have other commitments that will not take up the whole day. We had the hall from 8 to 8 and pretty much used every minute of it.

I also think the fall would be good. Barry has a good point. Let's make it a Sunday this time to give some others the opportunity.

This event was education for me on so many levels. I am glad I was able to attend. Many pictures were taken and I'm sure as people get the time to sort and post we will all be able to see some of what was presented.

A big thank you to Pierre for his organizational skills on this one. Not just the hall booking but the documentaion of the proceedings will go along way to keeping the details straight for the future.

Also, I perhaps more than anyone would like thank Bob at CSS and Owen from OPC for donating some great prizes.

And thanks to all the folks that patiently answered my many questions. I vote to do this again. I thought the location was fine.

Rick.

PS I hope to get some pics up soon. Were we going to use another thread?
