It's a *******' vacuum tube. It will gradually change its characteristics all the way to the point where it starts to perform obtrusively badly (including the ultimate extreme of this: tube failure).
The change can be for better or worse. (With aging tubes it's usually the latter). There is no rule that things will always improve. 😉
