Dear All,
Theory says a driver is suitable for sealed if EPB is between 0 to 50, Suitable for both sealed or ported if EPB is 50 to 100 and suitable for Ported if EPB is more than 100
Now the question is,.... how strictly we need to follow this? Can we build a sealed sub or speaker with a driver that is suitable for ported and Vice Versa? Performance will not be good?? Any serious negative affects in doing this ???
Please suggest

I believe you mean EBP = efficiency bandwidth product. 😉
Well, having designed/built or at least proven the more extreme examples in sims it's mostly just gives a novice a point of diminishing returns WRT the balance of size Vs BW Vs efficiency, but since one normally should design to satisfy the needs of the intended app, the EBP chart should be ignored either in part or completely.
EBP is a fairly recent 'thing' as I've been in involved in this hobby since the mid '50s and only learned of it when I got on an early WWW forum in '97 and have never paid any attention to it nor used it to recommend a particular alignment, so I'll let you decide how much it should be adhered to in that start with what's recommended and if the sim doesn't meet the needs of your app, then either get a different driver or modify the sim till satisfied and see how far off EBP is.

That is a good article, surprised I've never seen it since Tripod goes back as far as I do on the WWW. All I've ever seen is the most basic, which is near useless except to a true novice and even this one doesn't deal with the more extreme vented alignments: EBS, TL, BP, horn. Still, had I known about it I would have posted it, so thanks!

Dear GM and academia50
Thank you so much for the knowledge you share. I am new to DIY and I have a few 10" and 12" subwoofer drivers. But I restricted myself from building Sealed subs because these drivers EPB suggests for Ported.
With your inputs, I learned we should not sit back without experimenting. Thanks a lot !!!
